Kyle and Malia’s wedding at The Horse Shoe Farm in Hendersonville, North Carolina was the kind of day that reminds us why we love documentary wedding photography. It wasn’t rushed. It wasn’t overproduced. It was centered on people—friends and family who have known this couple since they were kids and showed up ready to celebrate them fully.

The Horse Shoe Farm is one of our favorite Western North Carolina wedding venues because it allows couples to slow down and actually enjoy their day. The property flows naturally from one part of the celebration to the next, which gives us the freedom to document moments as they happen—without constantly pulling couples away from their guests.

Kyle and Malia wanted their photos to feel real, joyful, and true to who they are. That meant capturing the emotional moments just as much as the fun ones. Some of the most meaningful parts of the day came during the speeches, where friends and family shared stories years in the making. Those reactions—laughter, tears, quiet smiles—are exactly what documentary-style wedding photography does best.

For portraits, we kept things relaxed and efficient, using different areas around The Horse Shoe Farm that offered beautiful light and a natural backdrop without feeling staged. This allowed Kyle and Malia to stay present, spend time with their guests, and enjoy the celebration they had planned.
Once the reception kicked off, the energy stayed high. With Dow Oak Events handling DJ entertainment, the dance floor stayed full and lively, while The Silo Cookhouse, the on-site restaurant at The Horse Shoe Farm, delivered incredible catering, bar service, and desserts—including the cake.
From emotional moments early in the evening to full-on celebration later, the reception perfectly reflected Kyle and Malia’s personalities and priorities.
If you’re planning a wedding at The Horse Shoe Farm in Hendersonville, NC and value photography that feels genuine, fun, and unforced, this venue is an incredible choice—and a perfect fit for couples who want their wedding day to feel like a celebration, not a photoshoot.
